Week 44: Pictures

 Burger King!
 Leadership Council

Week 44: We Back In Bogota!

Hola Familia y amigos!

This week was super sweet. Contacted a ton and we found some great
investigadores, they're ORO(gold). We were going to visit old investigators but they weren't home so my comp and I just decided to contact their neighbor while we were there.  That’s how we met Lina Pinto, we taught her the first leccion, she seemed interested and told us to come back later in the week. We went back talked to her aboutthe importance of prayer, reading the scriptures, going to church, and baptism. She accepted a baptismal date and then told us she was going to go to church. We show up to her house Sunday morning  and she was not there so we just thought that she went to another church or was not interested. We got to church and she's was already there with her husband Jorge. Until that moment we didn't even know she had a husband! After church we talked to both of them and set up a time to pass by later that day to teach them both. We get there and we talk to the husband and he straight up tells us he wants to get baptized, he lives in Leticia with his wife but he works all week at a farm in Brazil so he had no idea we had been teahing his wife. He told us that earlier that week he had been praying asking god which is the true church and that when he came back from work that week and his wife told him about us he said it was an answer to his prayer.  When he went to church he said he knows that this is the true church that he was praying for.   We  taught him the rest of leccion 1 and he told us that they're going to get married and baptized.

That was one of the most powerful experiences of my life, to know that the lord put us there that day to talk to his wife and because of that her husband received  the answer to his prayer. The lord really puts us in the right place at the right time and I know that he guides this work. We always need to be aware of that and need to be the best people we can and try our best to follow the spirit so we can be instruments in the Lord's hands to help find his lost sheep that are trying to find their way home. I love this gospel and I'm so greatful for the opportunity that I have to be a missionary and share this gospel with others.

Right  now I'm back in Bogota for a leaders council. My companion and I just  arrived from Leticia a couple minutes ago. We ate at Burger King and that was super awesome I hadn't had Burger King in over 10 months!   It is crazy to think that I've already been in the mission for 10 months and time is just flying. I love and miss you all, I hope you all have a great week! Christ lives, he loves you, and if you do the things that you need to do he will use you to bless the lives of others!

Week 43: Pictures

New Companion Elder Cabral from Brazil
Return Missionary Zach  Kendall and his Mom visiting Leticia.
Dinner with Hna Mercedes

Week 43: New Companion, Paul “ pablito “ from Gresham, Oregon, Lost cell phone, and Elder Kendall and his Mom!

Hola familia y amigos!

This week was pretty crazy Tuesday I got my new companion Elder Cabral(yes mom a picture will be coming) he's an awesome guy he's from Brazil and has like 6 months in the mission so we're both working on our Spanish together!   Wednesday  was tough, we went out and just started knocking doors, contacted for like 4-5 hours and nothing happened, but then out of nowhere we find a gringo(white guy) washing his car. We go over and talk to him and his name is Paul and he's from Gresham Oregon! It was really funny to meet someone from Oregon down here in Leticia, he lives here with his wife and they teach English. We are going to try and teach them and have lunch with them this next week.

Then Thursday our phone fell out of my pocket on the bus so now we don't have a phone, that was rough. Then Friday was pretty rough too, every single leccion that we had fell through, we literally just walked around and contacted and nothing really came out of that. Then Saturday was better, I did my first district meeting, that went pretty well. As district leader I just do a district meeting and collect numbers that's basically my job! It's easy when the other elders in your district are your neighbors!

Then something really funny happened Saturday, walking home after a leccion in the center of town and this two gringos are walking towards us and we talk to them and it was an Elder who served here about a year ago. It was Elder Kendal traveling with  his mom to visit areas he had served, it was really cool talking with them they're really good people. Then Sunday was good, a little rough too because Luiz is going to have surgery this week so he won't be able to be baptized this week.  He said after the surgery the first Saturday that he's available he's going to get baptized! Then today we tried to make donuts with Hna Mercedez, the other elders and elder Kendal and his mom.....that didn't work too well and all the should have been donuts are going to be converted into a cake tonight! haha.

This week was for sure one of the harder weeks that I've had in the mission but it's alright, without the hard times we wouldn't be able to know the good times! I love and miss you all I hope you're all doing well! Have a great week and just remember that Christ lives and he loves you!

Week 42: Pictures from Jared, the mission presidents wife, and Hna Mercedes.

Mother’s Day call home

Week 42: Some Birthday’s, Mother’s Day, and some flooded Leticia streets!

Hola Familia y Amigos!!

This was a pretty great week! Started out really good on Tuesday, we had a really cool member Gustavo come with us to some lecciones, that sounds pretty normal but here in Leticia it's pretty rare. It's super helpful too because there's lots of times here when we find some people to teach but there's no man over 18 years old so we can't go teach them so it was really a blessing to be able to have him with us on Tuesday.

Thursday we went to the rehab center and showed them the Joseph Smith Prophet of the Restoration Movie, that went really well, I love going to the rehab center every Thursday, every person there is trying to change their life for the better and it's cool to be able to work with all of them. This Thursday we're going to show them The
movie about President Monson.

Saturday was really fun, I got to talk to my family which was amazing, just cool to actually talk and see everyone in person, I even saw carpet! That was pretty weird it has been awhile since I have seen carpet! haha. Then after talking with the Family we
went to our recent convert Juan Carlos’s Birthday Party.   We had a fun time with him and ate some pizza. We're teaching his little brother right now too, they're great kids.

Then Sunday (Mother's Day) was awesome, Church was cool,Luiz Alfredo came to church. He is an amazing dude, reading the BOM everyday, coming to church. He's going to get baptized on the 26th of this month. It's amazing to see how his life has started to change ever since we started teaching him, he's happier and he just smiles more. It’s what the gospel does for everyone, just makes life better and truly the greatest source of joy and happiness and it's amazing to see it in Luiz´s life. Then after church we went to Hna Mercedes´house for her Son(Oscar) B-day party, that was super fun. It rained a ton so we had to use boots, have some funny pictures.

Then Monday was cambios. My Comp Elder Caqui left so right now I'm just chilling here with Elder Jeppson and Elder Hoffman, los 3 gringitos de leticia! Haha  But it's all good cuz my comp gets here today, Elder Cabral, he's Brazilian like Elder Araujo. I'm excited to start working with him! So we took Elder Caqui to the airport then after that we went and ate lunch with Hna Mercedes again.  Then we bought groceries, got our haircut and Elder Jeppson and I deep cleaned my house! Thats it for this week!! I Love and miss you all! I hope you all have a great week and remember to keep Christ at the center of your life!

Week 41:Pictures

 Chess set I bought
 Tierra’s Amazonicas Restaurant

 With Hna Mercedes

Hna Mercedes and her husband Alex

Week 41: The assistants came down and Tierra’s Amazonicas!

Hola familia y amigos!

This week was really good. Tuesday we ate lunch with our recent converts familia Diaz, they're awesome and that was great! We also had a cool experience at the end of the night when all our lecciones fell through and it was 8:15 and we just decided we were going to go contact(which in Leticia after 7 is almost impossible) and we
found an awesome family so that was amazing.

Then Thursday-Saturday the assistants came down here to Leticia. I had a intercambio with Elder Jones, he's a really cool guy and a great missionary, we had a really good day. On Friday I bought the assistants Mojojoi (gross amazon worm) and one fell in the street.  We realized it later and we walked back and saw the dead worm on the street, it was sad, Elder Caqui and I held a quick little funeral for it. Then Sunday was crazy, it was raining really hard right before church and we got to church with some investigators and there was  not many people there. The branch here is really small and we're trying to work on strengthening the branch.  Of the 32 people at church 18 were either Investigators, missionaries, or recent converts. But it was all good because Luiz Alfredo was there at church and he loved it! He's almost in Jacob and after church ended he was basically begging for us to come back to his house. I love him so much, his love for the gospel and his testimony in just this short time is absolutely amazing to me.

Then we had Almuerzo after church with Hna Mercedez because no one else would give us lunch. Then today was awesome because  Hna Mercedez has fed us so many times we decided that today we were going to take her and her husband Alex to eat at the nicest restaurant in Leticia, Tierras Amazonicas. Wow it was one of the best lunches I've ever had and it was awesome to get to go there with them and the other missionaries. That's about it for this week. I love you guys I hope you're all doing good. I hope you all know that Christ lives and that he loves you. I'm so greatful for this gospel and the opportunity that I have to share it here in Colombia!!

Nos Vemos!!

Week 40: Pictures

Jared’s memory card was not working so all pictures of Leticia are from Elder Hoffman this week.

Week 40:Noche Salpicon y Conozco Los Mormons

Hola Familia y amigos!

Este semana fue muy buena!

Tuesday was a whole lot of working.  Had some lecciones with some recent converts Miguel Chota y Alfonzo Mangabiera. Then Wednesday we had an awesome leccion con Luiz Alfredo. He'd read all the way to 2 nefi! He's really starting to gain his testimony, we had a good leccion with him about the word of wisdom and he told us he's going to try his best to stop drinking so he can feel the spirit more! Then we had a leccion con Carolina Curico one of our recent converts, she's in 2 Nefi too and she's a stud. She wants to go on a mission but wants to go to college first so we're working on changing her mind so she can go as soon as possible! Thursday we had a cool leccion at the Rehab center talking about prophets. We had about 20 people there listening to us, it's pretty cool to get to go out there and teach a bunch of young people that are trying to change their lives.  Their is only one girl there and she speaks english and wants to improve her english so we gave her the ensign of the October general conference. She  said she hasn't had God in her life for a long time but she said that reading the Ensign is making her want to have God in her life again, that was really powerful. Then later we had a noche de hogar( Family Home Evening) with Carolina's family, a lot of people live in her house and some of them don't like us mormons too much so we did the only thing we knew we could... we brought a movie and food! We watched Meet the Mormons with Carolina and her family so her family could learn a little more about Mormons and it went really well, her dad is more interested in hearing our message and I really think that Carolina is going to bring a lot of the members of her family into the gospel. Friday was tough but fun, lots of lecciones fell through so we ended up just walking and contacting all day but that night we had a Branch NDH . We played Ping pong, chess, musical chairs and everything. We had alot of members there and we had a good amount of investigators there too, it was really fun!! Saturday we just contacted all day, we went to this pretty scetchy place in our area called La Union, and we found a pretty cool family that we're going to work with more this week! Sunday was busy but difficult too. Church was cool, it was a regional zone conference for Colombia and Ecuador but Sunday was also election day here in Colombia for governor. We had maybe 30 people at church and 2 of our investigators were there so that was cool! Then after church all of our lecciones fell through so we ended up contacting all day again.

Then today I bought groceries, and I bought a shower curtain because our house is missing a window and my desk always gets wet when it rains so I hung it up outside and I hope that works!  I also found a really cool handmade chess set that I bought. I'll have pictures next week because my memory card would not work but my comp and I just fixed it so I'll pictures next week!!   Love and miss you all! Hope you all had a great week andthat you all have a great week this week!

Nos Vemos!!
