Week 39: Pictures

Bogota Temple

Surprised to see Cinnabon in Colombia!
 Picture for Oma!

Week 39: Fuimos al templo, yo me cai en el pantano, y un detente vino

Hola familia y amigos!

Sorry I'm going to have to keep this letter short, Here in Leticia we
had a huge storm and all the internet places are worse than normal so
I hope this goes out! Tuesday after the zone conference my comp and I
went to a really nice mall in Bogota to go eat dinner, we had these
huge hamburgers from a place called El Corral. It was super good, the
mall had a cinnabon in it and that was crazy didn't think I'd see one
of those in Colombia. Then Wednesday was awesome, we got up at 4 in the
morning and went to the Bogota Temple, it was an amazing experience, I
love the temple and I'm so glad I got to go! Then we went right from
the temple to the airport to jump on a plane back to Leticia.

Thursday I had an intercambio with Elder Hoffman, that was awesome fun to go out with a kid from my CCM group!    Friday I had an intercambio with Elder Jeppson and we were walking in this little neighborhood that is literally above a Pantano(swamp) and we were on a really old wooden bridge and the bridge broke and I fell into the swamp...that was sad and disgusting but it was pretty funny in the moment. Then Saturday I was sick, I had the cold pretty bad but we just went out and worked like normal. That  night we had to go to the chapel because a 70 was coming to Leticia so we start to walk to the Chapel and it just starts to pour down rain, tropical rainstorm and we walked all through that storm and the 70 wasn't there because his plane couldn't land.  My cold got worse after that haha, I slept in a long sleeve shirt and socks in 90 degree weather because I was cold haha! Then Sunday was really cool, the 70 was there and he gave an amazing talk about Patriarachal Blessings, then he just left super fast after his talk.

M comp and I went to have a leccion with the director of the Rehab center David Porras. He'd been doing really good but then he had something really sad happen in his family and he says he doesn't know if he wants god in his life. It made me really sad because this is when he needs God and Christ the most. We explained to him that Christ has already suffered for all of our pains, sins, and sadness so he can support us when we're indifficult times. If we don't allow Christ's atonement to work in our life then he suffered for us in vain. I love the fact that he loved each and everyone of us so much that he willingly suffered for us so that he could help us when we're struggling, so that we don't have to suffer like he did. I invite everyone to turn to Christ when life gets hard or when we think that no one has ever felt our pain before because it's not true, Christ felt everything we could possibly feel and more and he is always there for us when we need him, we just need to turn to him!

Today we all got haircuts and Elder Hoffman and Elder Jeppson set up a ping pong table in their house so we all played chess and ping pong today! I love and miss you all, I hope you're all doing well and hope that you all have a great week!

Week 38: Pictures

 Service Project
 Baptisms

 Bus ride with chicken!
Flight to Bogota

Week 38: Service Project, Batisms, and Bogota!

Hola familia y amigos!

Hey guys this week was pretty crazy! First off we had our final lecciones with Carolina and Alfonso before theire baptisms and that was awesome! Then this week we contacted a guy named Luis Alfredo, we taught him leccion 1 and gave him a BOM.  We passed by two days later and he'd read all the way to 1 Nefi 10! He loves the BOM so far and says he's going to keep reading! We have some lecciones set up with him for this week and I really think if he continues to read and pray, he'll gain his own testimony of the BOM and be baptized!

Saturday was really cool, we went in the morning to do some service at the rehab center....the service was using machetes to cut down weeds in the Amazon it was awesome! Then later that night we had the Baptismal service for Alfonso y Carolina. It was an amazing experience to see them make that convenant with the lord and to be
cleansed of their sins, then they both gave amazing testimonies and Carolin told us she wants to be a missionary!!

On Monday we were supposed to catch a flight to Bogota at  2:40 pm.  So thanks to the teachings of my parents we were in the airport two hours before the scheduled flight time so we wouldn't miss the flight. Yep well what happened is that the plane that was going down to Leticia had to go back up to Bogota so we ended up waiting in the Leticia airport for 8 hours to catch our flight up to Bogota. Elder Jeppson and I don't have the best luck with flights in our missions so far! We got to Bogota  at 11:00 pm last night and that's why I'm sending this out today! But since I'm in Bogota I can send a bunch of Pictures!! I love and miss all of you guys I hope you're all doing well!

Week 37:Pictures

Week 37: When you don’t have book of Mormons, or water...but you have a baptism and the Bomoeros(firefighters)!

Hola familia y amigos!

This week was pretty crazy. Tuesday and Wednesday we just straight up
worked, we still didn't have Book of Mormon's so it was pretty hard to
find some new people to teach but this week we found a nice family
that are living in pretty humble circumstances and we're going to have
more visits with them this week.

This week was really focused on Juan Carlos, a really cool 15 year old kid. We had some great lecciones with him this week preparing him for his baptism, he reads the BOM every day and he even went to 5am seminary so he could get baptized.
Friday we had his baptismal interview and everything was ready for Saturday! Then Saturday came and it did not go as planned! We find out that the chapel doesn't have water! that means that we can't fill the baptismal font and Juan Carlos can't get baptized so we do what you normally do... we go to the Firefighters! We made a deal with the Firefighters and they came to the chapel with the firetruck and filled the baptismal font with the firehose! It was pretty hilarious, I got to get in the truck and put on the hat and jacket the whole 9 yards, I felt like I was in Elementary school again when the Firefighters came! Then we had Juan Carlos' Baptism, it was amazing, the spirit was so strong and he was so happy, you could really feel the love that he has for the Lord and Sunday at church he was confirmed. Also on Sunday my comp and I taught gospel principles class(we were not told we would be teaching gospelprinciples class), then some members gave us money to go buy lunch(we're working on teaching keep the sabbath day holy) so we ate ramen in the house.

We also are preparing 2 people to get baptized this next week, Carolina Curico and Alfonso Mangabeda, they're both awesome. Carolina told us how she got her answer that the Book of Mormon is true that she prayed to God and she got the overwhelming feeling that it's true and knows that this it the true church. There's
nothing better than when you get to see the change in peoples life when they realize how precious the Book of Mormon is. Working without the book of mormon as a missionary has been pretty tough but it's helped me realize how blessed we all are that we have the scriptures so easily accessible! I love the BOM and I know anyone who does what Carolina did, will come to find the truthfulness and the joy that is
the BOM!

Then today was a good adult-prep day. My comp and I sat in the bank for like 2 hours so we could pay a bill! That's really it, It's really hot here but I love it and I'm excited to share the gospel with the people of Leticia! I love and miss you all, I hope you're alldoing well!

Week 36: Pictures

Easter dinner

 Conference in English with treats

Week 36: General Conference and Easter!

Hola familia y amigos!

This week went by pretty fast and it was really hot! Not a lot of note worthy things happened this week, we don't have book of mormons down here in Leticia so contacting has been a little tough but we've been working with some really good investigators.  Juan Carlos is a 17 year old kid who's going to get baptized this week, he reads the book of mormon every day for like 30 minutes and he's really excited for his baptism. Then we're also working with Carolina Curico, a couple days ago she told us she got her answer that she knows the Book of Mormon is true, she's awesome and we're working with her for her baptism on the 14th of April. We also have some great stuff happening at the rehab center, we're teaching the Director David Porras and we teach all the patients once a week.

Then we had General Conference, Elder Jeppson and I were able to watch it in English which was awesome, we bought a lot of really bad food so we both agreed to go on a diet afterwards!! haha.  It was amazing getting to sustain President Nelson
and Elder Gong and Soares, it was also really special to get to watch conference on Easter  Sunday, I loved Elder Uchtdorf's talk about Christ and how his resurection is the most important event that has ever happened. Without Christ we wouldn't be able to go back and live with our heavenly father, I'm so honored that I have the opportunity to teach of Christ and his importance to the people of Colombia here
on my mission! Today was okay, we got our haircut and that was about it, there's not a whole lot to do here in leticia  besides sweat! Love and miss you guys, hope you all have a great week!
